This activity requires students to manipulate two concepts which are important in strengthening academic and real life thinking skills. The student must recognize the numbers fall into a pattern, a numerical progression. The student must then place the numbers in the correct order and place the number in its correct size progression or category. This activity also reinforces the concept that NUMBER and SIZE are recognized qualities or aspects of an item often referenced when describing objects, locations, people, etc. to others. This type of thinking is also often required in higher cognitive tasks such as determining the suitability of objects to be used for a particular purpose.
